How should we distinguish between night and day for worship?
When talking about religious practices, what time of day and night is called?
Night is the name of the time from sunset to imsak time. We can also call it the time between the beginning of the Maghrib (sunset prayer) and the beginning of the Fajr (sunrise prayer). In the daytime, it is the time between imsak time and sunset. When we measure it with prayer, we say the time from the start of the Fajr (sunrise prayer) to the end of the Asr (afternoon prayer). Day is the name given to the whole day and night. Night comes before day. For example, the first day of Ramadan begins with its night, first the night is experienced, then the day comes. For this reason, we perform tarawih prayers on the first night of Ramadan and fast the next day. We do not perform tarawih prayers on its last night either. Because the next day is the day of Shawwal.
