Do troubles befall us because of our sins?

I do my prayers and try to avoid haram as much as I can. Should we consider every trouble and misfortune that befalls us as a reflection of our sins and mistakes?

When evaluating the negativities that happen to the servant, a limited expression as "every negativity" is wrong. Yes, the actions of our hands/tongues/eyes and the unsteadiness of our hearts may be the cause of calamity from Allah as a result. There are verses and hadiths that show and point to this. But based on this, it cannot be said that every misfortune comes as a punishment upon a mistake. And calamities cannot cause an understanding as if the necessary punishment has come and gone. There are those who have suffered greater calamities than those we know as prophets, small babies, and righteous people. How will we evaluate this? Thinking about only one option in such matters is perhaps forcing the knowledge of the unseen. The issue should be looked at with an understanding that can be summarized as "Let's not have made a mistake and caused it...". May Allah protect you from calamities. May He protect us from being heedless.
